“CASTA DIVA” award ceremony and gala concert review

October 15 “CASTA DIVA” award ceremony and gala concert took place at the Kolobov Novaya Opera theater of Moscow. For more than 20 years this prize has been awarded for outstanding achievements in Opera art. And this year wasn’t an exception!

At the last ceremony the award finally reached its hero – Dmitry Ulyanov got the prize of Russian Opera award “CASTA DIVA” as  “Best male singer of the year” for the role of Ivan Khovansky from Mussorgsky’s  opera “Khovanshchina”, that was staged in 2015 in the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Academic Music Theatre.

Also the award was presented to Ildar Abdrazakov-winner of 2016 (Best male singer of the year). The winners of this year were Valery Gergiev (“The cavalier of the Opera”), Aida Garifullina (Best female singer of the year) , Vladislav Sulimsky (Best male singer of the year), etc. The concert was imbued with the spirit of Italian Opera, but the audience could also hear great arias from Russian operas: Dmitry Ulyanov appeared twice- with aria of Galitsky and aria of Khan Konchak from Borodin’s opera  “Prince Igor”, Agunda Kulaeva and  Alexey Tatarintsev presented to the audience a duet of Konchakovna and Vladimir Igorevich from the same opera, and Vladislav Sulimsky sang a ballad of  Tomskiy from “Queen of spades” by Tchaikovsky.

The ceremony and concert were led by the initiator of the establishment of the “CASTA DIVA” award and Chairman of the jury Michael Mogensen and director of the Kolobov Novaya Opera theater of Moscow Dmitry Sibirtsev.

«Other guests, winners of «Casta Diva» award of various years, pleased the audience with the excellent performances and magnificent voices. Especially bas Dmitry Ulyanov, who appeared in the  characters of Prince Galitsky and Khan Konchak from the Borodin’s  opera “Prince Igor”. Ulyanov’s amazingly clear diction and artistry fascinated the audience no less than his emotionality (at the beginning of the Aria of Galitsky ring from his finger swept up in the direction of the orchestra).»
